The iconic Hudson River Palisades, protected by more that a century’s worth of conservation efforts, are in danger of being spoiled forever. LG, the multinational electronics manufacturer, and the borough of Englewood Cliffs, under Mayor Joseph Parisi, are moving ahead with plans to build a massive tower that will forever change the nature of this beautiful American Natural and Historic Landmark.LG has enough land to build a low-rise office building that would provide the same office space and number of jobs as its tower without harming the natural beauty of the Palisades. This is such needlessly short-sighted plan that four prior NJ governors have come out against it. Despite all this, the Borough of Englewood Cliffs changed its zoning laws to allow LG to build high above the tree line – changes that open the door to even more high-rise development along the unspoiled Palisades north of the George Washington Bridge.Perhaps most galling, according to Christine Todd Whitman one reason LG is pursing this plan is because they want to enjoy the view! Tell LG and Englewood Cliffs: Construct a lower building that will protect the Palisades from irreparable harm. (Inspired by and adapted from
