This is for South Africans who want to avoid products which harm the environment and which include ingredients that can be harmful to humans, instead opting for organic, natural and unharmful products.
I have chosen to make a specific campaign for organics and earth-friendly products in South Africa because the products recommended internationally are not always available here. Additionally, it is important to support local entrepreneurs and businesses in order to develop the domestic economy and to encourage a 'green culture'. However, international brands will also be included, so anybody can join in and provide input. All and any input will be appreciated! :)
Some rudimentary guidelines on what is considered unharmful and/or organic (feel free to message me about these and contribute!)
Cleaning & hygiene products: Must not contain chemicals which damage the environment (e.g. ingredients that affect aquatic and plant life negatively, like siloxanes & triclosan) and which are harmful to humans (e.g. sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium laureth sulfate (SLE), carcinogens, 'hormone disruptors', and others). Since there is a long list of offenders, I suggest users do their own research before adding or reporting a product since the ingredients just listed are only a few of many.
Beauty products: Same as above -- avoid SLS's, parabens, etc...again, please do your own research here because there is a long list of offenders to avoid. Products that can be added to the list are those made of organic ingredients (e.g. face cream made out of coconut oil and beeswax) or otherwise, ingredients which cause no known environmental or human harm.
Food: grown organically without pesticides. Animal-wise, without hormones, growth enhancers, or antibiotics. Must be free-range, and with natural animal feed. I could add GMO-free products to the requirement if there is a desire for this, but I have found this to be very hard to track in South Africa so I am leaving it out for now.
Paper, books or paper products: Paper/paper products should be recycled or FSC-certified, with books also FSC-certified OR second-hand
Other products: I can't think of more right now, but I'm sure there are more...anyways, you can use your own logic to decide whether they are environmentally and human friendly....or, message me so I can add more guidelines!
Let's keep South Africa's environment and people pure and beautiful, and also support the entrepreneurs and businesses who are trying to do the same ! :D <3
