Full Control Of Lights and Fan.. Look no further.
Installation instructions very clear, didn't have to run or have 14/3 or 3 wire installed like older installs required for operation of lights and fans separately.Requires only plain old 14/2 wiring or 1 electrical wire from your switch to fan!The results were dramatic, quiet fan operation with full control of speeds and light levels.I bought a new Harbour Breeze Exocet 48 inch fan to use with this. Going to try LEDs in the future as I've heard great results with them.

INSTALLATION:
[Make sure power is off at the breaker panel!]
Module - The trickiest part is the installation of the module that goes in the fan canopy especially on a sloped ceiling. On a sloped ceiling, the knob of the fan downrod may encroach into the gap between the mounting bracket and canopy because of the angle, thus not allowing the module to fit. There is a special enlarged canopy & bracket kit (which comes in various finishes) available at most hardware stores that provides a dedicated pocket (space) in the bracket for remote modules. 5 wires-neutral, live, fan, light, ground.

Switch - You'll need to remove the Lutron cover plate in order to screw the switch into the switch box. To do this, GENTLY and EVENLY pry from the sides the cover plate off, or on the back move slightly the 4 tabs (2 on each side) that's holding the cover plate to separate it from the housing. Once done, 2 screws will be exposed. Remove these screws to detach the switch from the cover plate ring. Once the 3 house wires are installed onto the switch, mount it in the box. If you're installing it in a ganged box (multi-switches) the cover plate ring and Lutron cover plate are no longer necessary since the ganged box cover plate will be used. Otherwise re-screw the ring back on and snap the Lutron cover plate back on.

The wiring diagram and instructions are very detailed. Read and understand them before starting.

OPERATION: Press either the fan or light button and it returns to the last setting before it was turned off. Tiny LED lights on the left indicates the level of lighting or fan speed. Make sure the light pull-chain of the fan fixture is on and the fan pull-chain is on the highest setting. When you're done and everything works, you can detach the chains.

If it doesn't work, try resetting the system. Near the bottom of the switch there is a small fuse-like tab. Pull it out with your fingernail, wait 10 seconds, then push it back in to reset the system.

Will need to know how the dimmable feature performs on LED or dimmable fluorescent bulbs.

*UPDATE - installed a dimmable LED bulb. Works great! No humming. (Although LEDs are more expensive, unlike CFLs & incandescents, they have no mercury. The 13.5w LED I bought is comparable to a 60w incandescent and 13w CFL. It's rated double the life hrs than the CFL. LED prices are dropping. Couldn't resist to try this bulb since the big box store had a good sale going on).
Regarding the Maestro, was so pleased with it, I bought 2 more for other rooms. To date, 3/15/13, no issues.
*OPERATION UPDATE
(1)Highest Setting: When turning on, to by-pass the light or fan returning back to the last setting in order to go to the highest setting, tap the button twice.
(2) Slow Countdown Turn Off: Press and hold the button until the light ON the switch drops to the lowest setting. The light on the switch will then blink fast and then start ascending at each level. Pick the setting where you want the countdown-to-off to begin by then releasing the button. The higher the setting, the more time you have before the system turns off. The light on the switch will blink about 19 or 20 times at each stage on the switch as it descends.

The picture is weird if you haven't used one of these before. The switch on the left is what is on/in your wall and the piece that looks vented goes in the housing against your ceiling which is like a wireless remote in a sense.
Like many people, we were curious if we could use LED bulbs in our ceiling fan with this control Many people said yes, some said no. I called Lutron and they told me "Lutron does not make a control that works with LED bulbs". I laughed and told the rep that this is the 21st century and incandescent bulbs are going away, and next will be CFL bulbs, so LED bulbs are no longer the future but the present. She just said the same thing over again.
We took the chance, as my one son doing the install is an electrician.
Now, the results:
The fan control works great. You hit the button and the fan comes on, you adjust with a thin toggle on the right of the control. Oddly, LED indicators show the level of speed (the more LED's lit, the faster the fan speed). When you hit the button to turn it off, the LED's go off one at a time as the fan comes to a stop.
The light control works. Yes, it does dim or brighten the LED bulbs we used.
BUT: We have an electric tankless water heater, and when we turn on hot water, *sometimes* the LED bulbs strobe. My son didn't know why other than this must be the reason Lutron doesn't advise using LED bulbs with their controls. Even though our water heater is on a dedicated 240 line, somehow it interferes with the remote I mentioned above. Not everytime, not all the time, sometimes. And, it is only when we turn on hot water that we get the problem.

I don't know what to tell you. I haven't put incandescent bulbs in to see if it performs the same way.
We like the LED's, they are brighter, easier to read by, and use much less electric. If the flickering happened all the time, I guess we would pursue a solution. We like this control, and we like our LED's, so we use both.

Much cheaper on Amazon than in the local Home Depot store. I ordered two of these and both worked perfect with our Hampton Bay ceiling fans. This switch allows seperate dimmer capabilities for the fan and light, which is usually only capable if you have three wire running from the ceiling unit to the switch. In my living room my wiring is regular two wire (white, black, ground) which does not allow a regular dimmer switch to control the light and fan seperatley. There is special wire (white, black, blue, and ground) that is needed in order to do this, which is a pain and expensive. So, this particular switch comes with a modulator that allows seperate dimmer function to the fan and light. This enables multiple fan speeds and light settings. The modulator hooks to the white and black wires from the ceiling and then converts the power seperatley to the unit's lights and fan motor. The switch then sends a signal to the modulator telling the light and or fan to run at a specified setting set by the little rocker switch next to the buttons. The big square buttons are only for the on/off function. The little LED lights on the left of the switch indicate the fan speed and light settings. When switching on the light you will see a cool glowing lighting effect as the bulbs go from off to bright and the reverse effect when the light is turned off. When the light and or fan is off the LED light setting indicator glows dim and when they are turned on the glow brightens. Lutron's website is sort of helpful showing off the switch.

The only trouble with these switches is fitting the modulator in the ceiling fan's housing. It is a little bulky and comes with only one zip tie, which wasn't enough for me to get it to stay put (I used three). And I wasn't able to find another manufactorer of a switch like this one unless I wanted to have a remote control, which I did not want or need. So I really didn't have a choice but to use Lutron's switch but I'm very happy with the results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked as Advertised

Worked as advertised. Another poster who evaluated it reported it worked fine with dimmable LEDs. It did not work properly with the dimmable LEDs I had - 3 X 5 Watt (Luminus B11s) as they flickered on low brightness settings. Perhaps a higher load may have worked OK. Regardless, the packaging states not suitable for LED lights. So, the unit worked fine but I had to replace my LED bulbs with less efficient incandescent lamps.

Reviewed in Canada on August 20, 2019
This worked great for a while and a year later the fan just stopped working. It was great because I only had one set of wires going to the spot where my fan was. I was able to operate both separately with this tool. I had bought two of these and both of them failed after about a year or two. I ended up just going into the attic and running additional wires to control the fans separately.
