Jason gets it right. I've been using this gel for seven years, and it's simply the best.

The consistency is perfect, spreading easily and absorbing fully. It tones your face and leaves you feeling cool and hydrated. Other brands tend not to absorb as well, leaving a "mask" that weighs you down.

I spread this gel over my face and even my eyelids without a worry because it never stings or irritates. It hydrates, relieves sunburn, soothes irritated skin and best of all (in my case) repairs cracked, dry feet. Used regularly, this gentle gel keeps my feet fresh and hydrated far better than harsh products specifically designed for "problem" feet.

My one complaint is that Jason recently switched from a nice clear bottle to a solid white/yellowish one I don't find attractive. I much preferred when I could see the gel inside!

This item can get pricey at upscale "Whole Foods"-type retailers, but you can save here - and save EVEN MORE at iHerb where first-time customers who enter "XAY240" at checkout get $5 off, no strings attached. Plus iHerb lets you select a free sample of their other natural products with each order.

I also use it as a styling gel for my hair. It leaves it silky, shiny and very hydrated. Jason products have the good stuff and this is a great value pack that you can take anywhere. I've been searching for a replacement for Fruit of the Earth aloe vera gel ever since they became embroiled in the lawsuit over the actual contents of their product. I want an actual gel and most are liquids in spite of calling themselves 'gels'. According to the reviews, this product actually is a gel, so I gave it a try.

Being a gel is the only thing it has going for it, assuming that's what you want. It smells identical to my toilet bowl cleaner, which is say it's not a horrible smell (for a bathroom), but it's not something you want all over your body or face. It smells nothing like any other aloe product I've ever tried. The killer for me, though, is the presence of alcohol. I will never understand why some manufactures insist on putting alcohol in an aloe vera product, but I'm certain that accounts for the burning sensation some reviewers described. The picture of the label on Amazon does not list alcohol, but the label on the bottle I received clearly does - it's the seventh ingredient in a long list. As many reviewers have noted, the product has clearly been modified and was at one time likely a much better version of its current self.

The item is non-returnable, but Amazon took care of refunding my purchase price anyway.

Short review: I have been using this Jason Aloe Gel for years (primarily on my face). And it has been great. Right up until they came out with the "new bottle, same formulation" formula. Well, as you can see from some other reviewers--it is anything but the "same great formula".

The new gel is thicker/tacky/sticky.. almost feels like a runny glue. It is horrid to use.. particularly on the face where it will have strange stuff peel off after it dries. So you kind of look like you're getting a bad sunburn peel.

Not sure what other products to recommend [yet]. But the Jason Aloe Gel is a no go for me anymore. It's unfortunate.. seems like Jason did this on a few of their products (apricot scrubble, for example), and they've either cheapened them out or somehow managed to ruin the previously good formulation.

Update: After searching a bit, this product might be a better alternative. I am going to try and update. So far looks decent: "Aloe Life Whole Leaf Aloe Vera Skin Gel"

If I was to be cast away on a desert island and could take only one cosmetic item, this would be it.
