I Love The Movie and Soundtrack
I was so happy this soundtrack is available as a reissue on Amazon. It just arrived today and I have already played it twice. A great addition to add to my album collection.

I am a 59 year young white guy. I have listened to and grown more attracted to good music. Good music does exist. While growing up I heard a lot of great music coming over from Britain, then the US response, the 80's, the 90's and so on. My appreciation of African American music began with soul, went to jazz, and lately has steered toward Funk. Yes,say it again, FUNK. OK, I admit that I'm late. Ok, I'm stupid, and it took me longer, but low and behold it has finally happened. Soul went into funk. And I have to say that I also missed a lot of good music. Thank God that I saw "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" because the song, "The Boss" is where I heard it for the first time. "Paid The Cost to Be the Boss" , that's jazz and soul. Those horns are so true. James Brown can write a song. James Brown wrote many. To me, the time from 70 to 74 is meaningful. Early hits had a more grinding sound, but Ceasar is funk and some great song writing from James Brown. I would put his song writing up there with any Dylan, Hendrix, Nyro, or Lennon/McCartney. Seriously. I just never heard it on my white stations. Hey, its my fault. I could have changed the channel. I did change the channel! Get Black Ceasar. Great songwriting. Powerful concept through whole album. Its a concept album. It is the cream of funk from the Godfather of Soul. Yes, it is a SOUND TRACK ALBUM, but ITS REALLY A GREAT James Brown album. Wow. '73 was such a good year for him.........

.........before playing Mama Feelgood, or vocalist Lyn Collins is going to leave your home in need of some repairs. From the guitar-piano-guitar introduction, Collins delivers a funk tour-de-force performance in a classic song on a great soundtrack for an underrated movie that stars Fred Williamson.
The score was composed by James Brown and Fred Wesley, which starts with a smoking R&B number - Down and Out in New York City - and ends drenched in the blues - Like It Is, Like It Was.
It is four consecutive numbers which makes Black Caesar not only a remarkable soundtrack, but one of the best albums ever issued by Brown. The mid-tempo of Boss bounces into Brown at his funky best - Make It Good to Yourself. Collins then tears it up, with the ballad - Mama's Dead - a gem of an emotional ride by Brown.
There are several instrumentals, with the jazzy Sportin' Life and the quick pace in Chase emerging as the best.
Brown wore the crown as "The Godfather of Soul" after the soundtrack was released in February 1973. And the soundtrack leaves no doubt that J.B. set the rules for admittance into the court of funky royalty.

I am a heavy James Brown user, it's a quality pressing. Packaged well and the price was good.

The music film was really good for it's time and is still relevant and entertaining today. This is, next to "Superfly," one of my favorites.

If you are at all impressed with Mayfield's Superfly, give Black Caesar a listen. This album has it all- heavy hitting chunks of funk like Down and Out in New York City to the laid back pimpin' sounds of Blind Man Can See It. Keep in mind that this album was released within months of the ground breaking Big Payback. Buy this album, then buy Slaughter's Big Rip Off. You won't be disappointed.

What a great soundtrack. JB and the JB's did great work on Black Caesar. Personal favorites include "Blind Man Can See It", and "The Boss". JB in prime form here, buy it.
