This cassette player is O.K. for kids to play with. I have not tried to tape a voice with it. I bought it to play some old cassette tapes of my mother's favorites. The sound quality is not that good if you are trying to listen to an old favorite. There is no way to adjust the bass and treble.

I purchased one of these from Walmart. It made my 30+ year old GE recorder seem like a professional unit by comparison. First off, the cassette door is poorly designed so that the cassette has to be positioned EXACTLY right (this takes some doing) or else the tape will not be properly aligned and either play too fast or slow, or your tape will be eaten and destroyed. Second, the tape, when recording, does not align with the recording head, resulting in a muddy, "underwater" quality. After losing two tapes, I noticed that the tape not being properly aligned due to the poor design of the cassette door sometimes leads to the take up reel stopping and starting, resulting in the tape winding around the capstan, and being "eaten." This $25 waste of money does not even come with a factory warranty, and I lost the receipt, so, down the garbage chute it went. I found a new old stock GE recorder, identical to my old one, essentially new and in perfect shape on ebay for $41. That has been tested, and will remain in it's box until my old GE gives up the ghost, which it shows no signs of doing.Read full review
