The product instructions indicated that the saw is designed to cut on the pull stroke. I noticed that teeth were sloped to cut on the forward stroke, and that has proved to be the case. I wrote to the seller about this discrepancy, and the immediate answer reminded me of their return option. I went ahead and used the saw and miter box and it works fine (cutting on the forward stroke), so I have been using it. The plastic miter box is subject to cutting by the saw, but this is probably better than a metal box that might dull the saw blade. I use it with care. I like the wide range of angle options.

The first time I used this box, I was cutting 1/4 X 3/4 basswood strips. The plastic holding pins are weak and break easy. In addition, a piece of the plastic miterbox along the slot broke off. I suggest buying a metal miter box as plastic will not suffice. As for the accompanying saw, it worked well and is made well.

I gave it four stars instead of five because it is not compatible with my fine blade X-acto Razor Saw. Fortunately I ordered it with a the compatible saw offered by Midwest. . The reason it will not work with my X-Acto blade is not wide enough to reach the bottom of this box. A wider X-Acto blade might be compatible. On the bright side, the blade that comes with it is "good enough" and the added cuts (beyond 45 and and 90) will come in handy in the future. I've just used it a couple times and it seems sturdy enough for my needs. I mostly use it for building models so I'm cutting small bits of plastic, wood, and the occasional soft metal such as brass tubing. Most of these items are held in place with either tape, clamps, or hand pressure with no problems. I'm very satisfied with the box and the blade. Hope this helps with your buying decisions.Read full review

Perfect for small projects. Makes accurate clean cuts. While plastic and not hefty adequate for intended use. May not last decades but inexpensive enough to buy another. Razor saw is excellent. Primary use for me is building RC balsa/light ply planes.

Saw works extremely well! But, I have to make over 1000 cuts and the plastic keeper broke very early on. I replaced them with hardwood pegs that I made: using the saw for perfection. The base is well made and if used with care will last a long time. I marked down one star because the keepers are ceep plastic and broke within 20 cuts.
