The small and medium sizes are too small. All 3 sizes are about the same price. You can divide the large one into 3 smaller sections. Removing the dividers i use it to hold my betta. It comes with a lid that can be locked closed. The exit side has 2 different grills to stop the fish from getting out into the main tank. You need a air pump to push water into it. You can adjust the water flow with the included valve. Use a short half inch hose at the end of the intake pipe instead of the cap provided. The bubble running through the cap is noisy. With the hose just under the water level there is less noise. Dont completely submerge the hose or it will bubble a lot.

I use these as filters for a few of my aquariums. They are great as aquarium filters. I place two of the dividers in, thus making three chambers. In the middle chamber, I put filter floss (i.e.,inexpensive pillow stuffing or pillow batting that can be purchased at Walmart). In the last chamber, I put ceramic bio-media. The initial chamber is left empty, but even more bio-media could, I suppose be placed there too (about half-way up at most for this section). Be careful with the alignment of the dividers; place them appropriately into there respective slots. The floss media is a cinch to change (unlike with sponge or bottom-corner filters). These filters rely on air pump air injection... which is low wattage and cheap to run... though a wee bit loud (but in a fish room it's no big deal, noise-wise). Highly recommended! :)Read full review

Purchased this for a pregnant Swordtail, it had 2 dividers to separate up to 3 fish but had to modify it so that the babies would fall thru to the bottom away from the mother until removed. I also placed a piece of mesh over the water discharge to protect any babies that might get too close. Haven't tried it for a Breeding Tank as of yet.

Great quality, and easy to use. Makes protecting tiny babies much easier during water changes. Much better than inside the tank breeder nets, plus so many more uses. Only downside is I wish it could be made quieter but it really isn't a big deal.

Have yet to "breed" in it but the box is nicely made. Fit on the tank and the circulation system works great......now I just need some fry.......
