If you go for glitz over content, this is for you. Van Last's choreography, in spite of the outstanding dancers doing it, is dull and repetitious. The camera work isn't bad for a dance concert, but the costumes are overdone and downright stupid. They do a dance version of Bizet's score to CARMEN like it was happening in outer space; from the wardrobe, it looks like each person has a million dollars to spend on an outfit but is hampered by a terminal case of bad taste. What the Fred Astaire number dancers wear is affronting to nostalgia. If Ginger Rogers ever wore clothes like this rubbish, she'd never have become a screen legend. Watch Ginger's clothes some time; they flowed, and they flowed with the music. The bonus feature might lead you to believe that this was a major hit with critics and audiences, but a healthy number of the critics dismissed it. Even local critics during its tour realized that making a mess with noise and glitter isn't really much of an accomplishment.Read full review
This is such a great entertaining DVD! I love the music, the different types of dancing, the whole orchestration of dancing fitting the music. The only sad part is the DVD is not in HD or 4K, but is still worth seeing and listening to. Turn up the volume and enjoy!
