From Miramax, Clerks is one of those Kevin Smith movies that has developed a massive cult following… and for great reason. This movie is hilariously sarcastic and dark look at the mundane life of two, obviously, clerks. Take the tag line for instance: “Just because they serve you.. doesn’t mean they like you.” Rolling Stone called it “Screamingly Funny!” New York Newsday called it “The Funniest Movie of the Year!” If you’re in the market for what the Detroit News called “a lively comic adventure,” Clerks dleviers with wholesale hilarity. Its one wild day in the life of a pair of overworked counter jockeys whose razor-sharp wit and on-the-job antics give a whole new meaning to customer service. Even while braving a nonstop parade of unpredictable shoppers, the clerks manage to play hockey on the roof, visit a funeral home, and straighten out their offbeat love lifes. The boss is nowhere in sight, so you can bet anything can – and will – happen when these guys are left to run the store. Though the acting isn’t grade A, the writing is. The humor and filming are off-beat enough that Clerks is very different… and, at the end of the day, that’s a great thing.Read full review
Clerks is one of the best movies I have ever seen. The charm of the movie is that the entire movie is filmed in black in white by a comic book/movie nerd. Clerks had a very low budget, Kevin Smith(who plays Silent Bob in the movie), sold his entire comic book collection, max out 8 credit cards, and used his entire college fund to create this masterpiece of a movie. After the movie became a hit, he bought back his entire comic book collection...along with a comic book shop. The man is a genious. Clerks was the first movie in the View Askewniverse(Kevin Smith's series of films). Mallrats apparently took place before this movie. Clerks' main character, Dante and Randall, make several references to other movies, such as Star Wars. The duo argue about the guys being contracted to make the Death Star were probably killed in Return of the Jedi, since the Death Star wasn't fully made and they were working on it. Various what ifs come about in the entire series of movies similar to this. The Jay and Silent Bob parts are just pure awesome. Both characters have since then have appeared in TV shows, movies, music videos, and commercials. Many of their old commercials for MTV are on this DVD in particular. The DVD is loaded with extras. I highly recommend this DVD to any nerd out there who likes comics, Star Wars, and just funny movies in general.Read full review
Some people go by the age ole adage that anything in black and white deserves to be looked at. I on the other hand decided many years ago that for reasons unbeknowest to me. ( yes I am the lousiest speller) that movies fell into my lap quite regulary, that were classics. Or if not yet classics, destined to be. The dialog in this movie is real, the people in Clerks are 'real'. I spent years at a "Stop n Go" on the West Coast. Not to mention a Burger King and a Drive- In movie theater. I was all namby- pamby to the joe- public where I wish the inner bitch in me would have popped out once in awhile, when I let a customer use the private bathroom and he came out with his trousers down. Watch this movie... and then watch all the rest
Great, we get an Anamorphic, widescreen, high definition transfer. All of the features from the previous release are on here plus so much more. We get the extended cut in all it's grainy glory, with a great commentary with the original cast including Brian and Jeff. But the best feature is by far the hour and a half documentary about Kevin Smith and clerks, really fantastic. This is completely worth it.
5 years passed since i first saw Clerks. What do i have to say when i finally bought my first Kevin Smith DVD (i previously owned the original VHS for Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma - Clerks VHS has a new happy owner now, a friend of mine. Hope he'll get the others too...)? Nothing. Just realized how i really enjoyed when i first watched and listened to the number "37" in a way i'll never forget. When you buy a DVD the most awesome thing you can have are the extras. And you'll have plenty of them to watch in this DVD. Trust me: the best $10 ever spent...
