Discovered these years ago and they've assisted multiple times in cleanly removing ticks, including head and mouth parts, from my own person and from canine friends. The included instructions are a bit geeky to read, but do so as they are informative and will help you use the pliers to maximum advantage. The plastic construction is adequate with the exception of the thoughtfully included magnifying lens, which is pretty much useless. Use a separate loupe to examine the tick to determine which kind of tick it is. There are websites with excellent pictures. (In order for the tick to transmit disease-- only 20% of ticks actually harbor harmful bacteria-- it has to have been attached for 48 to 72 hours. In such cases the tick will be "engorged"-- fat and round like a shiny jelly bean. When removing an engorged tick, it's imperative that you not squeeze it's body, which would inject its digestive material into the wound. This is where these pliers show their virtue. In other cases, where just removing a tick, you'll find that using these pliers greatly diminishes the formation of a raised bump after the tick is removed. In short, it would be well if knowledge of the existence of this excellent tool were more widespread. Buy a pair and keep them handy. You won't have to use them often, but when you do, the benefit will justify the purchase without any doubt.Read full review
