It's tough to beat a nice ACOG. I have tried Aimpoints and Eotechs, and while they are great with initial target acquisition, they lack the versatility of an ACOG. The Bindon aiming concept allows for faster acquisition than other magnified objects and the fiber optics adjust the reticle instantly. With some practice i was able to aquire and hit targets faster and with much more accuracy at 50 to 100 yards than with a simple red dot. It serves my purpose very well, being able to use it at the range, and also knowing that the durability and reliability being unsurpassed is comforting for use as a potential home defense optic.
There are many tactical scopes for your military spec rifle out there. Many of these are excellent for their specific use. The aimpoints and the eotechs are great but they are battery powered. Unless you carry spare batteries you risk their batteries dying out at a critical time. The trijicon scope does not suffer from this problem. It is self powered and uses a colored fiber filament to collect ambient light to provide a sighting reference point, clearly far superior. Pay the extra money and give yourself peace of mind, select the trijicon.
Listen people; forget the price tag associated with the TA31F, or any of the TA series ACOG's. With optics, you REALLY get what you pay for! This scope is no exception. I got mine preowned from a reputable eBay user, and couldn't be happier. Some things to ask: is the fiber optic bar cracked or just crackled (big difference), and how bright is the tritium. In addition, always check the crystal and body condition! The BAC (which is amazing how it works!)is done with perfection by Trijicon. The reticle and chevron are sharp and defined. The field of view is amazing and bright. I laugh at the cheap knock off clones out there...DO NOT be FOOLED; nothing can compare to an actual ACOG by Trijicon. Spend the money, and be truly satisfied; these last forever and are well worth the money!
I have always sworn by my iron sights! I have resisted change. I am a 1980s Marine Infantry Squadleader. and I pride myself in qualifying Expert. 4 years in a row. Iron sights! Well let me tell you! I placed my Acog on my Rifle and sighted it in at 100 yards per instructions. My 1st 20 rounds went in to a 6 in. circle! I did not even adjust the acog. The rounds went exactly where I wanted them. My 2nd 20 rounds went into a 4 in. circle! I was amazed! from then on it was lights out! I was picking small stones on the berm and nailing everyone of the. my last 30 rounds went into a 1 gallon paint can swinging from the target rack. I am sold! An Expert Rifleman will only Improve with this sight! I am sold! Now for one to put on my 308!

Awesome product. Very similar model to the one I carried in the middle east so it has some sentimental value to me. The glass is crystal clear as you'd expect with a high quality optic. Adjustments are spot on and have a tactile feel. The ACOG can take plenty of abuse and still hold a zero. Great for all ranges if you know what you are doing. Best AR sight out there hands down.
